Mercy and Truth

We are now in the month of January of the year 2020!   What will the New Year hold?  This is a question that many ask themselves.   The answer lies in what will we do to have an improved year from the last one.

This year may we seek to see and do things through the lens of Scripture as we allow God through His Spirit to do that which we cannot do for ourselves.  Yes, that is correct, we cannot live the Christian life without God doing it in and through us.  Our part is that we must surrender our will or choices to Him.

The wonderful truth of the Word is that “it is God who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13).   And “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).  You see it is all about God and what He can do!  We need to take our eyes off of ourselves in 2020 and place them on Him for He is able!   Jesus said: “Without me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).  So the question is where will you place your focus in 2020?

So often we in our zeal we seek to place our attention on truth without placing our attention on The Truth; that is Jesus.  He is The Way, The Truth and The Life (John 14:6).    When we do this the truth as we live and present it is void of love.    Our pursuit of truth void of love causes us to try to fix ourselves and others, something that we cannot do.  True surrender to God is that only things that heals us.

God said that it was He that would ” I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;  And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.” (Hebrews 10: 16,17).  You see, it is what God can do and will do we must surrender ourselves totally to Him.    God’s deepest desire is to heal our brokenness.

Listen to how this can take place in our lives:

“Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I should heal them.”  Matthew 13:15 NKJV

We need to see, hear and understand in order to experience the healing that we need to experience.  How can this take place?  Revelation 3:18 tells us that we need the anointing of the Spirit to see our true need and condition and then we need God to give us an understanding mind.   As the wise man says we   in Proverbs 3: 5-6 need to:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

The issues is who are we going to trust?  If we place our trust in God and lean into His understanding and acknowledge Him our hearts will be in the posture, position and place to experience the healing that we need.  When we experience this radical change in our lives mercy and truth will be the fruit of what takes place in our hearts.  And once experienced we need to ask God to help us never lose it.  As the wise man exclaimed:

Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,
And so find favor and high esteem
In the sight of God and man.  (Proverbs 3:3-4) NKJV

May our 2020 be one in which we find favor with and high esteem with God and man.  May mercy and truth be the heart and soul of  our lives this year!
