What to do With Anxious Thoughts!

Lately, as a counselor I am finding a growing concern with anxious thoughts.  Anxiety appears to be an emotion that is on the rise (and anxiety can lead to depression).  Of course, we are living in world that seems to encourage anxiety.  However, let me say that just because there is unrest outside of us does not mean that we should have anxiety in us!

Think about it; situations, people, and what happens don’t make us anxious WE make ourselves anxious.  It is how we decide how to respond to what is happening that will decide how we feel.  As the saying goes: “What gets the mind gets us!”  So, in the end it is we who will decide how we feel!  Now, to me, that is empowering and a big relief. So, let’s see how this works and what we can do about it.

In life an incident occurs.  Say, for instance, we get a text from someone we care about telling us that their brake light has just come on and they don’t know what to do.   We have a choice.  We can think the worst case scenario (oh my they are going to crash and die) or we can stop playing that awful movie in our mind and play one that is healthier for our emotional wellbeing.  We can get the text and tell ourselves: “ok, Mary’s brake light is on.  She must be ok as she is texting me.  Seems like she wants me to be aware and maybe needs some advice.  I am glad she reached out to me. Let me call and see what is going on and if she needs my help somehow.”   In other words, calmly find out the facts before you come to any conclusions.  Making assumptions can be emotionally draining and dangerous to our mental state of being.  So, stop playing that awful scenario in your mind and play something healthier. Remember as a person thinks so they will be!  (Proverbs 23:7)

The second and final suggestion that I want to share with you today is that to make sure that what you tell yourself something positive when in any given situation.  We need to realize that the words we tell ourselves create our mental state of being.  Death and life are in the power of the words we speak (Proverbs 18:21).  If we speak encouraging, positive, uplifting words it will make us into encouraging, positive, uplifting people.  It will also create a positive and healthy environment as it has created a positively mentally healthy you!

So, for now we need to start doing two things to effectively deal without anxious thoughts. First, we need to press the stop button on the unhealthy movies we play in our minds while we play healthier thoughts in our minds as we start speaking encouraging, positive, uplifting words!  I am cheering for you and I know that together with God we can make this happen!

The Best is Yet to Come

Hello Everyone,

Can you believe that the month of January is now complete?  It is now February and boy is it COLD here!  However, I believe the best is yet to come.  Why do I say that?  Well, because Christ is soon to return and God is still on the throne!

This year RTFM is seeking to do big things for Jesus.  We are in the midst of some ministry adjustments as we are looking to follow God’s lead on what He would like 2023 to look like for us.

At this time there will be three significant changes to what we will be doing.

First we are seeking to expand the RTFM Media department and make more video and online production so more people can access what we offer as well as view important material. We feel that the world is our field to reach!

Secondly we are completing the Unplugged curriculum were people can come onsite and learn how to live life effectively in this crumbling world.  We are seeking to renovate a little so as to accommodate those that come here.

Lastly, as we have completed the discipleship curriculum , in 2023 we will be seeking to engage individuals, families and organizations in training so that they can effectively be and make disciples for eternity. We will be doing this online and in person for those that are interested.  With this we also have almost completed our Brain Health Bible Studies that help others find mental health and wellness in the trying times that we are living in.

As we expand please pray for us that God will lead in these projects.   The best support anyone could ever give us is prayer.  We know that with Christ the best is yet to come!

Let me encourage you with these words from a book that I was reading from entitled Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing:

Live in contact with the living Christ, and He will hold you firmly by a hand that will never let go. Know and believe the love that God has to us, and you are secure; that love is a fortress impregnable to all the delusions and assaults of Satan. “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” pg. 119

I also love what the Bible says when it shares that,

“the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.”  2 Chronicles 16:9

God’s eyes are upon us and He will show Him self strong on our behalf!  Yes, the best is yet to come!

Be faithful!  We are here to serve you!

Have a blessed weekend my friends!

Here to serve!

The LORD is at Hand

Have you ever wondered what gentleness has to do with the coming of the LORD?  Evidently the Apostle Paul categorized the importance of gentleness as part of what needed to be demonstrated by the Christian right before Christ would come.  Here are the inspired words found in Philippians 4:5 (NKJV):

Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

Gentleness.  Today, we all seem to be too much in a rush to be patient, kind… gentle!  Gentleness has been defined as a personal quality which can be part of one’s character. It consists in kindness, consideration and amiability.  These character qualities can only genuinely come from a heart that has been in touch with God; for God is LOVE.  Patience minimizes the negative by diffusing it with love. Kindness is how love initiates something positive and breathes life into a situation. Gentleness uses both patience and kindness in a way that positively attracts peace.

Gentleness involves being down to earth (humility), having a quiet ego (humility), being quick to let things go (forgiveness), having a soft and supportive demeanor (kindness), and being oriented toward the other (kindness).   Gentleness is one of the characteristics of the fruit of the Spirit. Therefore, it is of a heavenly origin and it is divine.

Gentleness is the ability to endure hostility and hardship without aggression. Gentleness is learning to respond to criticism, rejection or wrong things done to us with a peaceful disposition, softly, without rage or bitterness.  We are gentle because we accept the reality that we are all flawed as human beings and realize that we too would like to be treated gently.

Gentleness is close to humility.  In Ephesians 4:2 we are called to live with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love.  We must have love in order to be gentle.  So, then, to be gentle we must have the Holy Spirit in our lives.  So, to possess gentleness is a strength that we can find only in our relationship with our Heavenly Father!  Listen to the gentleness of God:

He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.         Psalm 23:2-3 NKJV

And listen to the gentleness of our Savior:

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

                                                                                                 Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV

We find that gentle is part of who our heavenly Father is in His treatment of humanity (Mathew 5:45) and that He wants us to show to the world (Matthew 5:40-48; Revelation 18:1).  Gentleness is not something that naturally stems from us but comes from our connection to the source of gentleness and that is the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22).

So today, as we look around us and see a world desperately in need of gentleness may we prayerfully seek the anointing of God’s Spirit to shower us with His love and motivate us into acts of kindness that are deeply flavored with the gentleness of the loving Savior; for the LORD is at hand!  He is at hand through you and I to save, help, and encourage others.  He is soon to come! Let us bless others with a spirit of gentleness while we are waiting to be ushered eternally into His presence.   Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

The Theme for 2023

The theme for the year of 2023 will be Transformed into His Likeness!

The seal of God’s character upon His people will be the impact that will change the world for the better!  In 2023 RTFM will be sharing materials, podcasts, lessons and videos on how to experience the transformed life in Christ!

We believe that when the Character of Christ is reproduced and revealed in His people, He will come to take them home. (Revelation 7:1-3; 14:1; 14:12; Revelation 22:2-4: Galatians 5:22-23) Each day as we journey in this life God, through His Spirit, is seeking to work in our experience so that His character can be seen in and through us.

So, the year of 2023 will be dedicated to the encouragement and the seeking to having the experience of being truly transformed into the image of His dear son:

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.  2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV

For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.  Romans 8:29 NKJV

The year 2023 is going to be an exciting year as we yield our lives to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Best Deal – Black Friday?

As people run about today seeking the best deals, let us seek to be bearer’s of light remembering and sharing that the best deal that was ever offered mankind was on the Cross of Calvary!

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.”    2 Corinthians 8:9 NKJV.

For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Titus 3:4-7 NKVJ

He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities.  Psalms 103:10  NKJV

“Christ was treated as we deserve that we may be treated as He deserves. He was condemned for our sins, in which He had no share, that we might be justified by His righteousness, in which we had no share. He suffered the death which was ours, that we might receive the life which was His. ‘By His stripes we are healed.”    Desire of Ages

May your weekend  be a blessed one!

Lessons From the Life of Samson

I am going through the book of Judges and was studying the life of Samson.  You know, Samson: The weakest strong man.  Samson had great physical strength but… he was weak in character.  His lack of self-control ended up hurting his life in so many ways.

Samson’s name in Hebrew, Shimshon, meant the son of the sun. Why was he named after the sun we are not clearly told in scripture. One commentator shares that it was given to him, as he was the future deliverer of Israel Samson bore the name of God, who is called “a sun and shield” in Psalms 84:11. As God protected Israel, so did Samson watch over it in his generation, judging the people even as did God.

Samson eventually did deal with the LORD’s enemies.  However, he lacked the ability to keep to the agreement to stay true to his lifelong commitment of the Nazarite vow.  In violation of that vow, Samson, drunk wine, touched dead carcasses, and cut his hair; and, he did so intentionally!  What is the Bible trying to teach us here?

In reviewing the life of Samson and coming to a greater understanding of who Yahweh is, I can only see the love, mercy, patience, forbearance and kindness of God in action. In spite of Samson’s rebellious life God continued to reach out to Him in love in order to encourage Him to change his way.  The Bible says: “The Lord is longsuffering towards us not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

The Father loves His children.  He also desired to deliver His children from the hand of their enemies so, He used the “best” that was available to do so.  The “best” at that time was Samson.  So, God, as He often does, takes what we give Him and seeks to help us see our need of Him in order that we change and also so that those around us get the opportunity to be saved as well. This was the case in the life and the time of Samson.

We must also understand that man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart (I Samuel 16:7).  While we look at what was happening on the outside of Shimshon’s (Samson’s Hebrew name which meant the protector of Israel) life, we fail to be sensitive to the reality that he was acting out as a result of his upbringing as a Danite with no real land.  Samson lived among a halfhearted, non-fully devoted people who kept seeking and serving themselves as well as other deities. This seems to have had an impact on his life.  However, through this all our heavenly Father was seeking to help Samson see his need for Him!   God’s Spirit often stirred and came upon Samson to lead, guide and help him (see Judges 13-16).  Yet, Samson always possessed the freedom of choice to be totally guided by the Spirit of God or to take the reins of his own life and act selfishly.  Too often, when God was moving Samson in a certain direction, Samson did move in the direction God wanted him to at first and then quickly decided: “I will do things my way!”  Sad indeed.

So, Samson violated his Nazarite vow.  He drank wine, touched a dead carcass and cut his hair all in violation of that vow.  In the book of Numbers chapter six (6) you will find that if the vow was broken unintentionally there was a sacrifice that could be offered.  However, Samson intentionally broke the vow so there was no sacrifice that could be made for his sin… or, was there?  Follow me as this is deep!

According to the law there was no sacrifice that could be made if one intentionally broke the Nazarite Vow.  Samson willfully discarded this vow and this slowly led him to indulge in the sin of the flesh.  However, God was not through with Samson.  Yahweh never gives up on His children, he pursues us with an everlasting love!

One day, God allowed Samson to be captured and to be made a spectacle of.  As Samson was reaping the consequences of his sin in Gaza, he was alone and had much time to think about his life.  As he was imprisoned with his eyes gouged out and turning a large millstone and grinding grain, he must have thought of his broken vow and the broken heart of his heavenly Father.  It was here that he realized that his life did not have to end in disgrace, in sin, and with the loss of true meaning and purpose.

So, as the Bible says, one day the Philistines were having a feast and making great sacrifices to their god Dagon, they decided to make fun of Samson and his God and place Shimshon (the protector of Israel) on disgraceful display.  As Samson was brought before the jeering crowd, he remembered his vow and his purpose in life.  As he heard the screaming of the mocking crowd he repented of his sins, cried out to his loving Heavenly Father and found mercy, love, forgiveness and grace!  Samson then presented the greatest sacrifice that could be given as a token of his remorse and repentance while at the same time fulfilled his life calling.  Samson gave his life!  He gave his life to God, and gave his life for his people. And as Samson cried out:

“O Lord God, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God, that I may with one blow take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes!”

The Spirit of God came upon Samson and the true Protector of Israel worked through his son Shimshon to deliver His people.  What an amazing story of great love and deliverance.

Think about it, Samson was delivered from sin, himself and selfishness while at the same time God’s people were delivered from their enemy and Satan was defeated in so many ways!  Samson is now listed in the book of Hebrews Hall of faith!  (Hebrews 11)

My friend, I don’t know where you are in life right now.  You may feel that your life is going nowhere and that you have let your Heavenly Father down.  However, the story of Samson is a reminder that when all seems to have been lost, we can cry out to Yahweh and say:

“O Lord God, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God, that I may with one blow take vengeance on the enemy that has bound me.”

And when we do, our Father God will come to our side, and the walls will come tumbling down, the chains will be broken, and we will be set free!

What Does the Future Hold?

Since 2019 the entire world seems to be in a tailspin. The world we live in does present many challenges today. Many are looking to the Bible for answers and others are saying the end is near. Many are wondering what does the future hold?

The Bible does have a lot to accurately say about the future. However, what is says and how we interpret what it says is two different things. Over the years, I have seen many persons attempt to teach what the Bible has to say about prophecy by utilizing prepackaged lessons and present prepackaged seminars with the attempt to convince others and lead them to their own personal conclusions and church. Over the years, I have found that Bible teachers are just following a pre-canned lesson and then when asked some serious questions they really don’t have answers.

What puzzles me is that this wasn’t even the Saviors approach. His directive was actually to go and teach all things that He has taught us and go and make disciples. It’s really that simple!

The key to knowing what the future holds is to take the Bible out for yourself and let Yeshua teach you through His Spirit. Isn’t that what He said in Matthew 28 and John 13-17? “Come to me and let me teach you and I will direct you through my Spirit.”

You see, what the future holds depends on how we approach the way that we will live today! Today, if you would take time to set aside special moments to get into His word for yourself and walk away from those pre-canned lessons and presentations; and really seek Him for yourself you will be amazed what He will do. I know this may appear like a monumental and/or insurmountable task, but with God all things are possible. And, if you do it … trust me, your tomorrow will be much different and it will be filled with peace. How do I know? That has been my personal experience for the last seven (7) years.

Seven years ago, I began a journey. You see, I use to be one of those guys that used prepackaged lessons (I am not saying they are all bad by the way) and presentations thinking that what was prepared in them was 100% accurate. Now the thing is that I always had questions about them but I would just hush the discomfort of my mind and push forward. However, the Holy Spirit starting working on me one day and impressed me that the only way I would find true freedom and peace was to silence those questions of discomfort with what was really truth. Yes, you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free. (John 8:32-36)

As I followed His prompting I turned to the Bible and more specifically the Books of Daniel, Ezekiel, Zechariah, Revelation, etc., and my eyes were opened to things that I had never seen before and I also acquired deeper understanding of truth and Bible Prophecy. The future became clearer! I was also more at ease and filled with peace. The wonderful thing is that as I studied I thoroughly researched history and discovered so many things that enlightened and deepened my understanding. I also discovered things that helped me to correct so many misunderstanding that I had.

One question you should ask any Bible Prophecy teacher is this: “Where did you get this understanding and what documented proof can your provide to substantiate your conclusions and claims. Please, I would encourage you to not accept their document but THE DOCUMENT! It is so easy to cut-and-paste part of a document to make it say what you desire it to communicate. Now, I am not saying that anyone is intentionally misleading people (although, sad to say, some actually are) what I am saying is: check the sources of the presenter/lesson and make sure the sources are credible.

I believe in second coming of Jesus Christ! I believe that what the Bible said will happen will take place. In matter of fact much of what it has predicted has already come true and it appears that there is not much left to take place before we will see King Jesus riding on His White Horse of deliverance. You see that is what the future really holds! The future that awaits those that have accept Christ as their Savior is deliverance from this world and an eternity of peace with Him!

May The Father bless you as you seek to find peace through the study of His Word and as each day you have a deeper relationship with the Prince of Peace!

What A Headache!

Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters.

Isaiah 55:1

Yesterday afternoon for no rhyme or reason, I developed a really awful headache.  I thought o myself:  “maybe it was because I had not had enough water.”   I took in the necessary amount of water form the next few hours and still had the headache.  What made matters worse was that my condition did not get any better. In matter of fact the headache seemed to be more intense.   I took a nap thinking maybe I needed some rest and when I woke up… still no relief!

I managed to get to the end of the day.  Eating meals did not seem to help either.   As I went to bed that evening I felt like maybe my blood pressure was low and after my wife took my blood pressure,it was a reading of  120/62.  This is a pretty normal reading as I generally run 118/60  So no big deal here.  We prayed and I slept pretty good for the night.

At around 4:30 AM I was awakened and the Holy Spirit led me to read Isaiah chapter 55 as I read I found the words Ho! Everyone who thirst, come to the waters.  As I read on I found these words:

Ho! Everyone who thirsts,
Come to the waters;
And you who have no money,
Come, buy and eat.
Yes, come, buy wine and milk
Without money and without price.
Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,
And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
Incline your ear, and come to Me.
Hear, and your soul shall live;

As I read these words and kept reading the chapter the Holy Spirit impressed me that the reason for my headache was that I was drinking from the fountain of the chaos and controversy of this world so much that unbeknown to me it was effecting my state of being and causing me a headache!  I thought to myself: “NO WAY!”   As I did the Holy Spirit shared with me that lately I was paying to much attention to the news.  The war in Ukraine, the new variant and spread of the Coronavirus in China that may now come to the USA,  etc.  As I listen to God He shared with me that while I need to watch and be ready these events should not be allowed to consume my thoughts!   This is so true!  You see, we become what we focus on!  The Bible says: “as a man thinks in his heart so is he.” Proverbs 23:7.

I know that I am not alone.  Today’s world is sure out of control.  If we allow the state of the world to take over our minds then we will become just as out of control emotionally and maybe even medically if we do not balance our approach and our response.

As I spent time in the Word of the Father this morning I allowed Him to speak to me and He invited me to drink from His well of life. He shared with me that today I needed to start my day with Him, and place my confidence in the fact that He is in full control.  He then impressed me to play some soft music in the background today that would inspire my soul.  He then shared that a little lavender in the humidifier would also be quite relaxing for my mind, body and soul!

Let me invite you today to turn to Him, look to Him and live. For Isaiah 55:12 tells us that when we do:

“You shall go out with joy,
And be led out with peace.”

Today, my headache is all gone!  Today, I have decided that I will place the majority of my focus in His Word, His goodness, His love and His assurance!

God be with you!

Until next time,

Pastor David

The Missing Piece

Puzzles can be a relaxing, and at times, a very adventurous activity. The most pieces I have every put together (with help of course) was a 1000-piece puzzle.  Overtime I have put together quite a few.   How about you, do you like puzzles?

For me one of the most frustrating things that can happen when putting together a puzzle is when you are just about to get done and you discover that one piece is missing.  Just when you thought that the masterpiece your purchased was to be completed you are robbed of the joy of completion because of The Missing Piece.

As you look around the world today doesn’t if feel like something is missing.  As a Christian, as you are looking for answers, hope and peace, do you still have this kind of empty feeling like something is missing

I have been on a five-year journey on a personal prayerful in-depth study on the book of Revelation.  Now my study has been different.  I have done research (not just reading) on the book, on each chapter, the original language of the words in the book and more.  What has surfaced has been amazing.  In my studies I looked not to be biased or opinionated.  I let the word of God speak for itself.  One approach I took was asking questions like:

“If I were the early church, how would I have interpreted what John wrote?”

“If I were one of the Seven Churches, what would I have thought about the book of Revelation and how would I have interpreted it?”

“If I were out in the bush somewhere, and I was reading the book of Revelation how would I have understood and interpret the book of Revelation?”

You see in my study, as I prayed, I ask myself many questions.  I asked God many questions. I labored and prayed asking the Holy Spirit to guide me and I discovered many new things and had to unlearn some old things.  The Missing Piece and the puzzle came together one day for me.  Yes, one day. the entire picture of came together and I saw something I had never seen before.  Here it is:

The book of I John was written after the book of Revelation.  After leaving the Island of Patmos and having sent out the message of Revelation to the Seven Churches etc,  John is inspired by the Holy Spirit to write I,2 and 3 John.  In these books John the Revelator talks about the Antichrist and false teachers.  However, one thing that he seems to highlight (especially in I John) is LOVE!

Yes, John seemed to be moved by the Holy Spirit to communicate that the most important piece in life, as time on earth is running out, is that we as the Children of The Father possess LOVE.  In matter of fact In I John alone he uses that word love thirty-three (33) times. Each time the word is used, John uses the word agape or the unconditional love of The Father.

One of his biggest emphases is that we love one another! This is The Missing Piece in our walk with God.  In matter-of-fact John says that if we are truly walking with the Father, then we are walking in the light and we are having true fellowship with one another (I John 1:7).  John shares that when we are walking with the Father that we are experiencing true love for one another (I John 3:11) and we will not walk in hate! (I John 2:9,11; 3:15; 4:20).

One of the most important characteristics of an end time Christian is that they are demonstrating the character of love to the world and in the church.  If God dwells in the believer and the Holy Spirit is dwelling in the believer then as God is love and the fruit of the Spirit is love so we will reflect that which dwells and lives in us! Yes, we will love like God!

Love is The Missing Piece in the times in which we are living!   Yeshua said “by this shall men know if you are my disciples if you have love one for another.” (John 13:35) The questions that we should be asking ourselves are:

“Do I truly have, possess and abide in God’s love?”

“Do I treat other with the lovingkindness of Yahweh?”

“In my home, do my family members see me as a loving person?”

“In my church am I known as a loving person?  “Do I say and do loving things as a member in my church?”

“In the community do they see me as a loving individual?

“As a pastor, elder, church administrator do I treat people with love, respect and kindness?”

My friends, God is love!  If He indeed and truly dwells in us… then we are love too!

Love is The Missing Piece!  Love conquers all! (I John 13).  May God help me to be a loving person in the sight of God and my fellowman!  We are living near the end of time.  Love is the missing piece!
