To have a true walk with Christ! This is the desire of all who take the name of Christianity. However, this can be easier said then done.
It is easy to keep busy looking like a Christian and yet another thing to experience the abundant life that Jesus desires for us to live. And, that is the problem: busyness does not mean that my life is fulfilling. All it means is that I am , well… just that, busy.
I am finding that as Christians we all need to slow down. We need to take time for ourselves to really talk with God and enjoy the beauty of life. Too often work, family and church responsibilities, take so much time that we have very little time for the one who matters most-God!
Let me share with you a brief outline of sorts of what things we can do to make the Christian life more meaningful. Are you ready?
1. The First thing that should matter most to us is prayer. That’s right, before anything else that we do in life we should set time aside (no matter what) to pray. Jesus was our example. And, if one wants to live a life like Christ well then just follow His lead. That Bible tells us that : “ Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” (Mark 1:35) Jesus saw the need to make prayer the first thing He did to start off His day and we should too.
2. The second thing we should consider is f the needs of our family. That’s right, while I pursue work, church or another responsibility I should be thinking about how this impacts the well being of my home. The Apostle Paul shared this importance when he wrote that “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” (I Timothy 5:8) The Greek word provide in this verse means to think deeply about and foresee what is the best need for the family. This is what we must do as people. All that we do should entail the thought: “how will this best meet the need(s) of my family?”
3. We should engage in ministry that is one that follows the biblical plan. In the book of James we find a prescription that can give us some guidance: “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. “ (James 1:27) In our ministry we should seek to minimize focusing on say. “a church building” and focusing on the needs of people. In our ministry we should ask God to help us focus on the felt needs of others as we seek to impact lives with the message of Jesus’ love.
4. Lastly, we should be seeking to live the gospel instead or “preaching” the gospel. Please, don’t get me wrong. the word of God and the authentic gospel that changes lives and leads to salvation must be shared; however we need to see the practice of what we preach! I read this sometime ago and it inspired me that a living faith needs to be presented to the world! It is found in the book of Luke Here it is:
” The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord” Luke 4: 18-19 KJV
In these verses you see that the action of the gospel is part and parcel to the preaching of the gospel. There is preaching, healing, recovering and setting free! There is much action that goes on in these verses. That is just the point, the gospel needs to be lived out as it is preached! The Bible says of Jesus :
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” Acts 10:38
May we experience the anointing of the Holy Spirit with power! May that indwelling power lead us to do good and heal others that are oppressed! If God is for and with us… then who then can be against us! The world is waiting for the impact of Yeshua. We must be His hands of healing to the world!
Like you, I desire to have a fruitful life for Jesus. In order for that to happen, I must have a life of prayer. My life should be one that considers the life of my family at all times. Also, as I seek to see what is important at it relates to ministry I must follow the biblical plan of meeting felt needs. And Lastly, living the gospel goes far more of impacting people than any “ministry event” could ever accomplish. May God bless you as you seek to live a fulfilling life of true religion!
