Transformed by His Grace

It has only been a few hours since my arrival from our annual Transformed by His Grace Men’s Retreat.  The retreat left us  who attended in awe!  About  fourteen (14) men sat in silence as the Holy Spirit moved upon us all.  Some of us wept and others quietly moved their lips saying praise the LORD.   One gentleman wept and hugged another thanking God for the freedom, joy, power and love he was experiencing.  Really, I have never been in a meeting like this before in my life.  The authentic moving of the power of the Spirit was real!

This is what grace is all about.  As defined in the Bible, grace is the divine influence on the life that comes upon man that if received by faith it transforms the life bringing joy, freedom and gratitude.  This grace brings about such a change in the life that the individual impacted by it reflects the very character of God!  The apostle Paul puts it this way:

“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”  2 Corinthians 3:18

As we behold Jesus who is full of grace and truth (John 1:14) and truly receive  Him He will work in us both to will and do of God’s goods pleasure (Philippians 2:13).  This is what we all need.  For too long many of us have lived a life of inner turmoil as we struggle in the silence to truly live the Christian life.  We beat ourselves over the head saying I will never measure up, I can never be good enough.  So we trudge forward trying to live the Christian life and attempting all we can do to measure up!  My friend it will never happen.  Our attempts with out the grace (power) of God leaves us exhausted and guilt ridden.   There is a better way… God’s way!  It is his original design and plan for all of mankind.  Paul discovered how this is done.  Read closely:

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.  Galatians 2:20-21

Before we move on, notice the last sentence.  Paul realized that a person could frustrate the grace of God!  He identified that God’s healing saving grace gets frustrated when we attempt to heal our sinful tendencies by behavior modification and a religion of works!  When we do that; what Christ has accomplished for us has be done (for us)  in vain.  Why?  Because we  reject all that He has done on our behalf as well as reject His assistance and power to help us in our Christian walk and ability to overcome sin!  So, we do is our way instead of God’s way.  What is God’s way?

God’s way is to accept His grace through the acceptance of what He has provided for you through the gift of His Son.  Of course, in order to do that we must repent of our sin when we are under the conviction of the Holy Spirit, confess our wrong doing, accept His forgiveness and the ask Him (receive Him) to indwell us in order for Him to live His life through us. This is what Paul meant when he said: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life that I life in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God.

Did you catch that?  I (self) dies.  Christ live in me.  I am then living a new life by His faith!   Yes, I am now living by the faith of the Son of God!  When we invite Him in; surrendering our lives to Him, His faith takes over and we know life by the faith of Jesus! Wow!  This is God’s grace in action!   This is the grace that transforms!

God’s grace is the Divine influence that comes to us with the desire to save (sozo in the Greek meaning to heal) us from our sin. That if received by faith it will transform  us into the image of His Son as it give us joy in the heart; freedom from sin and power to live the Christian life with a  heart of gratitude for what He has done and is doing in, as well as through us.  You see, this grace brings about such a change that by it we reflect the very character of God.   I invite you to day to accept, receive and experience this transforming grace!

May you grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ!
